Wal Fife, a Canberra Grammar School old boy, and a great Australian leader, sadly passed away on 16 November, 2017.
Wal was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and was educated at Gurwood Street Public School, Wagga Wagga and Canberra Grammar School. In 1948 he started working in the federal secretariat of the Liberal Party of Australia and in 1949 he joined his family business. He married Marcia Hargreaves Stanley in May 1952 and they had two daughters and two sons.
Wal was elected as the member for Wagga Wagga in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1957, and hence started his successful political life. He used to win seats in various elections, and was appointed to a number of minister positions in different sectors for a long period of time, and retired from parliament prior to the 1993 election.
Wal’s funeral will be later next week. It will take place at St. John’s Wagga Wagga. The CGS Community would like to extend our deep condolence to Marcia and her family in this time of grief and loss.
